These terms apply when you use eBima - our website, our WhatsApp service and your customer dashboard - to buy or hold a micro-insurance policy. By buying a policy here, you agree to them.
1. Who we are, and what we do
eBima is a platform for buying micro-insurance. The policies sold here are underwritten by licensed insurance companies, not by us. We present their plans, collect your details, take the premium and pass your claim to them.
This means the insurer named on your policy is the one that carries the risk and pays the benefit. Their policy wording governs what is and is not covered. Where anything on this site differs from that wording, the insurer's policy wording applies.
2. Who can buy
- You must be old enough to enter a contract and have a mobile number we can reach you on.
- Each plan has its own age range. We check the age of the person being insured before creating an order, and a plan that does not fit that age cannot be bought.
- You may buy for yourself or for another person, such as a family member. If you buy for someone else, you confirm you have their agreement and that the details you give us about them are correct.
3. The details you give us
Insurance depends on the details being true. You are responsible for the accuracy of the name, date of birth and mobile number you give us, whether they are yours or another person's.
If the details are wrong, a claim can be refused by the insurer. Check them on the confirmation screen before you pay, and check them again on your dashboard afterwards. Tell us straight away if something is wrong.
4. Buying a policy
- Prices shown are the premium for the plan, in Bangladeshi Taka, and come from our catalogue at the moment you are looking at it.
- Choosing a plan creates an order. An order is not cover.
- Cover starts only when the payment is confirmed by the payment provider - not when the order is created, and not when you begin a payment.
- Your policy runs for the number of months shown on the plan, starting from the day the payment is confirmed.
- We may decline or cancel an order if the details are wrong, if the plan does not fit, or if we suspect fraud.
5. Payment
Premiums are collected through a third-party payment provider. We do not see or store your card or mobile-banking details. A payment is only complete when the provider confirms it to us; a payment that fails or is abandoned leaves the order unpaid and the policy inactive.
6. Your account and signing in
- Your mobile number is your account. Anyone who can receive messages on it can sign in.
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your number, or with a link we send you on WhatsApp that works once and expires after an hour.
- Never share a sign-in code with anyone, including anyone claiming to be from eBima. We will never ask you for it.
- Sign out on a shared or borrowed phone.
- Tell us straight away if you lose your number or think somebody else has reached your account.
7. Claims
- Claims are filed on your dashboard, not in the chat, because a claim needs a date, a description and usually a document.
- A claim can only be filed on a policy that has been paid for and is still running, and only one claim can be open on a policy at a time.
- The incident must have happened while the policy was in force.
- You can add more documents while a claim is being reviewed. Once it is settled, it is closed.
- We review the claim and pass it to the insurer. Filing a claim does not guarantee it will be approved, and the amount paid is decided by the policy wording, not by the amount you ask for.
- We will tell you the decision on your dashboard and on WhatsApp, with the reason.
- Giving false information or a false document in a claim is fraud. It will end the policy and may be reported.
8. Our automated assistant
Part of our service is automated. The assistant can answer questions and help you through a purchase, but it can make mistakes. Nothing it says changes your policy, and it never decides a claim. Where what the assistant said differs from your policy documents, the policy documents are correct.
9. Using the service properly
You agree not to:
- give false details, or buy a policy for someone without their agreement;
- try to reach another person's policy, claim or documents;
- attack, overload or probe the service, or try to get around its limits;
- use the service for anything unlawful.
We may suspend access where any of this happens.
10. Availability
We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will always be available. Maintenance, a network failure, a payment provider outage or a WhatsApp outage can interrupt it. An interruption does not change the cover you have already paid for.
11. Our responsibility
We are responsible for running this platform honestly and carefully. We are not the insurer, so we are not responsible for the insurer's decision on a claim or for the benefits under their policy.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for anything connected with the platform is limited to the premium you paid for the policy the claim relates to. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the terms that apply to your policy are the ones in force when you bought it. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Bangladesh, and the courts of Bangladesh have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
